Facebook’s Lamp Stack

Many months ago, there was Slashdot posting regarding a video discussing how Facebook runs its LAMP stack. I finally got around to watching the video and it is worthwhile to view if you have an interest in how to run a high volume web site. In the video, Aditya Agarwal – Directory of Engineering at Facebook – describes the architecture and the lessons learned from scaling the site.

Josh Elman Facebook Connect Presentation at SDForum

A coworker passed on this link (video no longer available) as an introduction to Facebook Connect.

This YouTube video is a bit rough when it comes to production value. The lecture was presented in a restaurant. The video appears to have been shot without a tripod, so there is a lot of unsteadiness. Don’t let this put you off – the content is good.

The presentation is 38 minutes long. Below is a rough outline of the presentation:

  • Rationale for Facebook Connect
  • Identity
  • Friends
  • Feeds
  • Privacy
  • How it Works
  • UI Components
  • Demo / Sample Code (code is not legible in the video)
